There are times in your life, you wonder, “How did I get here?” It’s stunning. Just this week I’ve been out here in the surf at Santa Monica Beach at sunset thinking once again, “How did I get here?
Usually you go to work, or you’re in traffic or you’re at home and you think, “This is life.” But every now and again you find yourself on this adventure, and things you never thought you’d have the opportunity to do, you’re doing. What created it? It’s just a matter of, well, as you’re driving in traffic, if those adventures are your goals, what are you doing towards those goals at that particular moment?
Betsy - That’s a great way of putting it. We were lucky enough to get to write a book. And in the book, I asked the question, “How does this moment … how does what I’m doing serve my soul’s, desire and dreams? And that’s similar to what you’re talking about. Because oftentimes you’re caught in a quagmire, in a moment that really isn’t serving you. And instead of just moving away from that moment, doing what you need to do to move forward, you get caught in that moment. And that’s something we all do all the time. That was something I really liked about the law of attraction, because that’s what it’s really about. You really are attracting that upon which you focus.
I have another question - one we get all the time. How did you decide who to interview?
Paul - This is one of the remarkable things that Rhonda brought to the project. We used the law of attraction during the making of the program. We went very unconventional, in terms of scheduling and budgeting. We allowed things to come to us. We actually got on a plane from Melbourne to America, and at that stage, we had one interview lined up and we were going to have our team in the States for a number of weeks. We just had faith that things would come to us.
We completed the first interview, and then a couple more people came available. We settled in Chicago, which for some reason, seems to be at the center of this kind of knowledge. As it happened, people we were interested in talking to were coming to Chicago at the point in time we were there. And they allowed us to interview them. While we were there, Chris and Janet Atwood were able to arrange for our team to go to Jack Canfield’s (Chicken Soup for the Soul) transformational leadership council at Aspen, Colorado.
We had a lineup of people who wanted and were able to do interviews from that organization. But the interesting thing was, Bob Proctor - who was one of these living legends and at the top of our interview wish list - he was constantly touring and lecturing and so on, and he didn’t have any time available for us. Coincidentally, we get this phone call saying, “Listen, Bob’s got the weekend free. He was supposed to appear at an event and they canceled on him, so if you want to travel to see him, know you can interview him in Aspen, Colorado.” But we were already in Aspen, Colorado just by “chance.”
