Thoughtful commentaries... occasional rants
by Mark Vicente
In this issue we’re talking a lot about peace and some novel and mostly untried ways of bringing it about. I am reminded constantly of Gandhi’s statement “Be the change you want to see in the world”. For many this is an elusive idea. The notion that somehow me changing, is going to effect the rest of reality seems – well… like a sweet idea. Most of us, when we first acknowledge that there is a problem in the world, want to do something about it. We spend all our moments trying to come up with ways to make the world a better place. Eventually this transforms into an obsession and becomes a beautiful way to completely ignore our own ‘stuff’. We eventually see ‘out there’, all the problems that we tend not to want to look at, ‘in here’. Click here for more

Foreign releases continue...
BLEEP was officially released in Mexico last Friday, August 5th, with exellent pre-release ticket sales. "This is really good!!!" writes Filmhouse managing director, Alejandro Benanatti. Opening in just nine theaters, the plan is to let the usual word of mouth "buzz" build the demand!
In Europe, The Netherland reports almost 20,000 tickets sold so far in the movie's run there. The DVD release by Cinemien Film and Video Distribution in the Netherlands is now scheduled for August 16. The DVD will be sold with Dutch and French subtitles. Rock on BLEEP!

Waging Peace
by Cate Montana
Peace is breaking out all over.
If you get your news from mainstream TV and radio, you probably haven’t noticed.
With our attention fixed on “the problems,” we rarely hear stories like the one about the philanthropist who subsidized a group of 8,000 Transcendental Meditation practitioners to engage in group meditation twice a day from 1988 to 1990, near New Delhi, India.

During this same period, the seven year war between Iraq and Iran came to an end. The Soviet Union’s brutal invasion of Afghanistan was called to a halt. In 1989 the Berlin Wall fell, the Soviet Union dissolved, and the Cold War, which had held the world teetering on the brink of extinction for forty years, simply evaporated. Coincidence? Not hardly.

| Quote of the Month
"I am learning to see. I don't know why it is, but everything penetrates more deeply into me and does not stop at the place where until now it always used to finish. I have an inner self of which I was ignorant. Everything goes thither now, what happens there I do not know."
Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge: Rainer Maria Rilke
