LOCAL MOVIE YOU GOTTA CHECK OUT!
What The $*#! Do We Know?:
Entertainment for the Mind
This
Independantfeature/documentary was filmed almost entirely in
Portland. It stars Marlee Matlin (Acadamy Award winner for "Children of
a Lesser God") and is playing at the Bagdad Theater for a very short
time (so go NOW!) It's a totally different kind of movie which
explores Quantam Physics and mysticism through a combination of drama,
documentary, interviews and animation. Simply put, the movie is about
mind over matter - the impact of thoughts and attitudes on reality. For

Sassy's Nerdy Bookworm Club
Ok so it's not really a club and just because I'm a total nerd
doesn't mean you are...but after talking with so many listeners about
what we're reading right now I thought it would be cool to
post our favorites for those looking for something new!
Latest listener suggestions:
All The Pain That Money Can Buy by William Wright is a biography about Christina Onasiss' life. Oh my God! It's a book that will make you NOT envious of the rich. There were no limits to her wealth yet I think she was one of the most unhappy people in the world. It was so fascinating to see how that family lived their life. I recommend it to
everyone.
Another really good one is a true story about a family raised in Portland. It's called: Shot in the Heart by Mikal Gilmore It's about a pretty much average family with one child that goes terribly astray in his life. It was a nationwide story. Mikal Gilmore's brother ended up receiving the death penalty for a crime he committed. He chose to be put to death by a
firing squad. Pull it up on the web and read the notes about it. It's an amazing story. You actually almost have empathy for this poor sole.
A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer Dave Pelzer is now a grown adult who lived through years of hideous abuse by his mother. I'm not talking about a mean mom who beat him all the time. This woman was insanely evil. There were times I wondered it the story was even true. It's unbelievable. He was on Oprah and talked about his life. His was the 3rd worse reported case of child abuse in California's history. As hard as it was to read at times (especially since you're a mom yourself) it's uplifting in the end because you know he grew up to be a good and productive person. He didn't let his sick
mother destroy him.
Some Sassy Favorites:
Just finished Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. It's about a hostage situation that drags on for months. Pretty good, I loved the "human" aspect of all the characters. Interesting ending, let me know what you think.
DaVinci Code & Angels and Demon's By Dan Brown
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore
Bunny Bunny: Gilda Radner, A Sort of Love Story by Alan Zwiebel. Such a great story about friendship!
This Much Is True by Wally Lamb. It's about two brothers, one spends his life taking care of the other.
Divine Secrets of The Ya Ya Sisterhood (much better than the movie!) by Rebecca Wells ...and if you love that then you have to read Rebecca's other book Little Altars Everywhere
Prey by Michael Crichton (kinda technical but good)
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk
Augusta Gone by Martha Tod Dudman (bawled my freakin' eyes out, very relatable to me I guess)
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. (I've read all of her books, if you like her style also check out High Tide in Tucson, The Bean Trees, and Animal Dreams)
CHILDRENS BOOKS:
"I Hope You Dance" by Mark D. Sanders. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL!!!!!
"Mr. Peabody's Apples" by Madonna (hey it's got a great message!)
"The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein "Where the Sidewalk Ends" is
another classic. You remember these from when we were kids!
Of course Harry Potter too!

WORDS WOMEN USE
Ladies, see if you don't laugh out loud like I did. Men, brush up.
FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument, when they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use fine to describe how a woman looks, this will cause you to have one of those arguments.
FIVE MINUTES: This is half an hour. It is equivalant to
the five minutes that your football game is going to last before you
take out the trash, so it's an even trade.
NOTHING: This means something and you should be on your toes. Nothing is usually used to describe the feeling a woman has of wanting to turn you inside out, upside down and backwards. Nothing usually signifies an argument that will last five minutes and end with fine.
GO AHEAD (With raised eyebrows): This is a dare. One that will result in a woman getting upset over nothing, and will end up with the word fine.
GO AHEAD (Normal eyebrows): This means 'I give up' or 'do what you want because I don't care'. Be prepared, in about five minutes you will get a go ahead with raised eyebrows followed by nothing and fine and she will talk to you in about five minutes when she's cooled off.
LOUD SIGH: This is not actually a word, but a nonverbal
statement that is often misunderstood by men. It basically
means she thinks you are an idiot at the moment and she wonders
why she's wasting her time.
A SOFT SIGH: Again, not a word but an nonverbal
statement. It means that she is content. Your best bet is to not
move or breathe and she will stay that way.
THAT'S OKAY: This is one of the most
dangerous statements a woman can make to a man. It means she wants to
think long and hard about paying you back for whatever you have
done. That's Okay is often used in conjuction with fine and a raised eyebrow.
GO AHEAD: At some point in the future you're gonna be in some mighty big trouble mister.
PLEASE DO: This is not a statement. It is an
offer. A woman is giving you the chance to come up with whatever excuse
or reason you have for doing whatever it is you have done. You have
a fair chance with the truth so be careful and you could skate by
without a Thats Okay.
THANKS: A woman is thanking you. Do not faint. Just say you're welcome.
THANKS A LOT: This is much different from thanks. A woman will say Thanks A lot when she's really ticked off at you. It signifies you have offended her in some callous way and will be followed by the loud sigh. Be careful not to ask what's wrong after that loud sigh as she will only tell you nothing.

SURVEY SAYS...
OVER 60 POINTS: Others see you ans someone they
should "handle w/ care". You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is
extrememly dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more
like you, but don't always trust you, hesitating to become deeply
involved with you.
51 TO 60 POINTS: Others see you as an exciting,
highly volatile, rather impulsive personality, a natural leader, who's
quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you
as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone
who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your
company because of the excitement you radiate.
41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively,
charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's
constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced
not to let it go to thier head. They also see you as a kind,
considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and
help them out.
31 TO 40 POINTS: Others see you as sensible,
cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or
talented but modest. Not a person who makes friends easily or too
quickly, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and
who expects the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to
know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends,
but equally that it takes you a long time to get over it if that trust
is ever broken.
21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as
painstaking and fussy. They see you as a very cautious, extremely
careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if
you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment,
expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and
then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused
partly by your careful nature.
UNDER 21 POINTS: People think you are shy, nervous,
and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants
someone else to make the decisions and who doesn't want to get involved
with anyone or anything. They see you as a worrier who always sees
problems that don't exist. Some people think you're boring. Only those
who know you well know that you aren't.
